Craig :

No, asbestos is not legal to use anymore. It's just something from the mfg process when they make the cable. It's nothing to worry about at all. I see it when I open a cable too. It's nothing

Customer:

Its a old cable maybe 10-20 years. Ok so we both agree then white powder of sorts is there.

Customer:

I can only presume it serves a purpose maybe to do with fire prevention risk or something. Whats the name of the powder used?

Craig :

yes, I see this occasionally when I open up a cable.

Craig :

I cannot locate anything on what it is made of.

Customer:

Well i know abestos is not currently legal.

Customer:

I know i see white powder

Customer:

i know its there from the mfg process

Customer:

None of this really answers my question though.

Customer:

As i'm looking to know what this white powder is

Customer:

they have used abestos in 5000 products over the years and with this being an older cable

Customer:

makes me very suspicious

Craig :

I have done several searches, there is nothing coming up. I guess one could contact a cord Mfg and ask??

Craig :

Contact one of these companies and ask about it
