Is it legal to change a grade? High school freshman has two 9 week quarters to equal a semester. Can a teacher change first 9 weeks grade(August 11-October 9).change On December 16 for the 1st 9week grade after the fact? 2nd nine weeks (October 12 - December 18). Teacher allowed extra time (til 12-16) to make up to passed 2nd nine weeks. Failed 2nd nine quarter grade. Then changed first nine weeks passing grade (c- to D-) wich caused loose credit.

Yes a teacher, with good cause, may change a grade of a student for the previous semester, but they need good cause. If the grade was just arbitrarily changed this late after it was given, that is grounds to file a complaint with the school principal first and if they do not agree to change it back and the teacher cannot prove good cause for the change, then you need to appeal this to the school board. The school board is the final recourse and say on this matter, as courts have no jurisdiction in grading.
