VerifiedHi, thanks for using JustAnswer.com I am Cris and will be glad to assist you. Can you tell me the firmware version that is on your Kindle.
- From Home, tap the Menu icon, and then tap Settings.
- From Settings, tap the Menu icon, and then tap Device Info.
You will need to do two firmware upgrades since you are two versions behind.
- Go the the link provided to download the firmware https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200790650
- First download 5.3.2.1 onto your PC.
- Connect your Kindle to your PC via the USB cable.
- Locate the file which should be in your downloads folder.
- Your Kindle will appear as secondary drive in My Computer.
- Copy the file into the Root of the drive meaning do not place it into any folder.
- Disconnect the Kindle from the PC and on the Kindle tap on Home, tap the Menu icon, and then tap Settings.
- Tap the Menu icon, and then tap Update Your Kindle. This option will be grayed out if the most recent update has already been installed or if the file transfer was not successful.
- Tap OK to perform the update. You will see Your Kindle Is Updating.
- Once the update is complete, your Kindle will automatically restart.
- After it has upgraded download 5.3.7.3 and repeat the steps over again to update the Kindle.
- Once you have completed you should now be able to register the Kindle
