How do i register my kindle ereader

Technician's Assistant: How long has this been going on with your Kindle? What have you tried so far?

I got it for Christmas. I have tried using my wifi but it keeps telling me try again and finally I figured out that I would have to register it to put the wifi password ***** it.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the E-reader Expert to know before I connect you?

Oh, I have tried to register it myself but I don't think that I am following the directions completely even though I printed them out.
