Can i remove the data i have on the kindle fire before doing a reset. my kindle is not turning on i have tried the on/off techniques suggested already.

No it was working last night put it on the charger and this morning it would not come on just sits in the "fire" screen indefinately

Please plug in your Kindle for 5 minutes then hold down the power button for 45 seconds while it is plugged in until the Kindle reboots. It can take 2-3 minutes for the complete reboot process.

If that does not work then please let me know

it has been plugged in all day and i have tried the reboot several times. Every time it gets stuck on the "fire" screen and goes no further. Before I do a complete reset, i would like to get my data off the machine. Is that possible?

Which data? All books are stored on the Kindle server so they will be transferred to the next Kindle.

You would need to register the Kindle to his account which would wipe out your Kindle

does the kindle store the data on the cloud automatically or does it save to a hard drive on the machine automatically. we didn't set it up for anything specific and he just "saves" to wherever it saves to automatically.

If you register your Amazon account to his Kindle then it will load your information and not his or whatever is in that account that you load.

no just keeps going through the same loop. mine is brand new (never used) and had nothing on it. so now what it is on optiminzing system storage and applications screen

Allow it to run through this process for about an hour and see if it continues

Also, plug it in while it is doing it.
