Technician's Assistant: What brand and model of e-reader do you have?

Kindle paperwhite, new.

Technician's Assistant: How long has this been going on with your Kindle? What have you tried so far?

OK, here's description of problem. Problem is, won’t reopen books to page at which I left off reading. Books are all Mobi (Kindle) downloaded from Gutenberg. Organized in collections. Worked fine on old Kindle. On new Kindle, if I open one book, read some pages, revert to Home screen Collection, open same book again, goes to correct page. Until I open another book, read some pages, revert to Home screen. Then, when I open first book again, instead of correct page, it goes to Location 1 (or sometimes to 1% at beginning of text). After that, when I open 2nd book, it does same thing. Always does this. Doesn’t matter which book(s). Have tried menu restart, hard restart. Have tried deleting books and copying to Kindle again (I keep copies of all Gutenberg books on computer, transfer by USB). No help. But here is something strange, and possibly related to problem. Whenever I transfer a book to Kindle, it creates new empty/empty folder in Documents folder, with same name as book. Never saw this on old Kindle. On new one, book itself also shows in Document folder, not/not in folder of same name. Empty folder doesn’t appear immediately, only after I open book on Kindle, move it collection, etc. Possible I caused this problem?? Have several books by same author in separate folder on computer. Rather than transferring these to Kindle book by book, I transferred entire folder. That worked, books are on Kindle and accessible. But—maybe not good idea? Your thoughts/questions?

No. Instructions say, only if asked to do so by Kindle Customer Service. And it's a pain. And I can talk with them for free. Any other thoughts?

If you can't help me, then I'll call Kindle Customer Service and do a factory reset if they say I need to. One last time, do you have any other suggestions at all?

No, I'm sure I don't. But I don't need a JustAnswer technician to tell me to do a factory reset either. I was hoping you could suggest something that would have made doing that unnecessary. Sorry I wasted your time (and mine).
