This is usually an issue with the Firmware, so I would first like you to do this please.
Remove the charger from the Kindle and hold the power button to off for 35 seconds.
Release, then connect the charger and try to turn on the Kindle and use it.

On which exact step do you get this? When you try to select the book and purchase it?

Ok,, we will need to reset the kindle
To do this, go to menu, settings, menu, Reset Kindle to factory defaults.
Once done, setup the Kindle again and tell me please how it then functions
