have tried to update my kindle and nothing happens
JA: What's the make/model of your device? How old is it?
Customer: It's an Amazon kindle I've had it a long time unsure of the model number
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: every time I get a message to update I've plugged it in ,turned on the wifi and it doesn't update. I got my kindle Feb. 2012

Initially, have you considered / tried manually updating the Kindle ? ...with the use of a computer?

this is just too confusing for me. I have a kindle fire that I can use and just read the books that are already on my kindle
