ok, you need then to make sure the Kindle is register with the same Amazon account you used on the Laptop

Which model Kindle do you have? Or ig your not sure, is it black and white? Color? Touch screen?

Book on my laptop is a recent purchase fro Amazon.
Kindle is black and not touch screen- belonged to my late wife, at least 10 years old. When I try to access the book a pop up says either 'buy a new Kindle' or 'get the app thru this link' - link leads to 'this webpage no longer available'???

If your not sure, go to settings, devices info and tell me the serial number

What you need to do is update the firmware on the Kindle to regain access.

You can do this by carefully following the instructions here

Then you should be able to access it.

The Kindle version needs to get to 3.4.1

Hi Richard. I successfully downloaded and updated from 3.2.1 to 3.3 and then to 3.4
The next step in the instruction is to update from 3.4 to 3.4.2 - I downloaded 3.4.2 and sent from my computer to my kindle but the 'update your kindle' does not come up. You write that I must get to 3.4.1, but there does not appear to be a download for this.

It is the last step

First though

Remove the charger from the Kindle and hold the power button to off for 35 seconds.

Release, then connect the charger and try to turn on the Kindle.

And then update it

I now have version 3.4.2 on my Kindle. I just need to find out how I download the book I recently purchased. I can access it on cloud via my laptop. How do I download?

If you go to the cloud on the Kindle you should see it there and can select it to download

All I see is Kindle User Guide, 3rd Edition, The New Oxford American Dictionary, My Clipping, Oxford Dictionary of English and Archived Items (0). To access the last, I am asked to Register - not accepted "e address and password ***** not match any records" I recently re-set the password ***** received a numerical code, which I have tried but it does not work. And yet I have no difficulty accessing my books on cloud via my PC.

It seems to me that this should be a simple problem and I should be able to resolve it myself. I have re-set the password, successfully, but it failed allow me to register. Perhaps the problem lies in the fact that the Kindle was my late wife's, rather than mine. However, the e-mail address to which it was attached is unchanged. Your further assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I think my problem is that there are now 2 accounts - the original account in my late wife's name and, more recently, and account in my name (that my daughter set up in an attempt to help me). If this is correct, how should I go about resolving it?

Can you do a full reset of the Kindle please, so go to Menu, Settings, Menu, Factory Reset

Complete this and tell me if you can now register it please
