Aluratek 8" ADPF08SF -- On being plugged in shows initial

Customer Question

Hi--Aluratek 8" ADPF08SF -- On being plugged in shows initial screen for 2-sec intervals repeatedly. Holding down the play/pause button eventually gets a partial menu screen on which the gear (settings) icon is broken up and no items can be activated.
JA: What's the make/model of your device? How old is it?
Customer: About a year old. Aluratek 8" ADPF08SF
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: A few months. Plugged and unplugged is about the extent: never get past the plug-in.
JA: Anything else you want the eReader expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: Guess not.

Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

I suggest first of all, that you might need to try a factory reset on it.

(Note: this might wipe out all data/pictures stored on the photo frame device in question. I hope you have copies of them elsewhere, on another device.)

Also, is the device over a year old? measured from purchase date.

Or less than a year old?

This could prove important.

This is one factory reset to consider, in case you are considering the risk or loss of data or pictures or configuration acceptable:

1. use a paperclip to press the button within the small pinhole on the back of the device.

2. then hold down all three of: ON/OFF, ZOOM, and MENU

3. when the Aluratek logo shows up, release the ON/OFF button

4. keep holding down ZOOM and MENU until you see a 16-item menu screen.

Let me know, in Reply To Expert, what you think, and if you try this, how it goes, please.
