Please press and hold the Power on / off button on your kindle for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on, then go to the wi-fi setting on the kindle and check. Please let me know. Thank you,

Please go to Wi-Fi Networks, then tap on your wireless network name, then tap on the Forget option, then tap on your network name again, and connect, then check. Please let me know. Thank you,

How many wireless network name(s) of yours do you see? What's the network name did you connect to?

Are you able to browse / search for (new) books on the kindle?

Only one of our networks to choose from. I am able to browse and search and it says I purchased it and will download soon. Normally it downloads within a minute or so. It had been 30 minutes.

Thank you. Please disconnect the power cord(s) from your internet modem / router device(s) for a couple of minutes, then re-connect

, then wait a few minutes, and make sure the kindle is still connected to your wi-fi / wireless network name in Wi-Fi Network settings, and check.
