You only need to change your password ***** order to stop further access to your account.

As when you close it you lose all your purchases.

But if you really do want to close it then you can do so via my instructions below

  1. log in to www.Amazon.com

  2. Click Help in the bottom right of the footer

  3. Scroll down and hover over Need More Help? and then click Contact Us

  4. Click Prime or Something Else under "What Can We Help You With"

  5. Select Account Settings in the "Select an issue" drop-down

  6. Then select Close Account in the "Select Issue Details" drop-down

  7. Finally, click Email, Call, or Chat to get in touch with Amazon about closing your account

It is my wife’s reader, and I’ve been trying to separate her from visiting family long enough to respond to your e-mail. So far, no luck. I will get her to sit down at the computer eventually.
