I can no longer purchase new books or those that have allowed a sample on my Kindle Paper white. Help please

This symptom can indicate several possible issues: an internal hardware failure, a low/faulty battery, or just a simple memory/firmware glitch.

The first step here will be to attempt to reboot the kindle. This is done by pressing/sliding and holding the power button for 20+ seconds, or until the screen flashes (usually with an image of a tree), then release. Give the kindle about a minute to start back up, and let me know if the problem persists, we can then try some further steps.

okay, then this would be a payment/account issue at this point then,

The likely issue is that you have a card on file for your amazon account, but had been making purchases via the amazon website. If you didn't specifically associate a particular card with the kindle, or configure one to a one click setting for the kindle then you could face this issue.

There are a few easy steps to fix this though.

First, go here:

there you can be sure your card/bank info is correct (right address, valid expiration date, etc)

From there, go here:

On this page, click on the SETTINGS tab at the top right,

then you can from there set a default card to be used for one click purchases on the kindle.

Under Kindle Payment Settings, click on the Edit Payment Method button, and you can set the card you want used for your kindle purchases.

After that, reboot the kindle by pressing/sliding and holding the power button for 20+ seconds, and it should operate normally from there.

I've carried out all the instructions, but still can't purchase. (It did accept purchase of two samples on my kindle yesterday, but won't accept further purchases.) I've added to the balance on my visa debit card, so it can't be lack of funds, since the only purchases on that card are for books for kindle. More advice please, Nathan

No call is necessary.

The resets I indicated should fix any internal kindle issues, but it must be connected to wifi, and you have to have all of your payment details on the proper amazon site sorted as well.
