How does it take for crystal meth to leave your system?

Resolved Question:

How long does it take for crystal meth to leave your system?

The detection period for methamphetamine (crystal meth) is reported in the published medical literature 87 ± 51 hours, with a maximal detection period of 6 days.

In most cases, a urine drug test for methamphetamine would be expected to be negative within 3-5 days.

tested positive after 4 days. Will exercise and drinking water help?

Expert:  Family Physician replied 6 years ago.
How was the test done?
Was this a on-site, instant or dipstick test OR was it a test that was sent to a certified laboratory?

Why was the test done?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

random, reported to a lab

Expert:  Family Physician replied 6 years ago.
A positive test at 4 days is not unusual or unexpected. If the test was not confirmed with GC/MS (gas chromatography–mass spectrometry), this could theoretically be a "false positive"

I would suggest contacting the laboratory to be sure that the test was confirmed with GC/MS.

At this point, if you are going to have another test, as long as you have remained off the drug, you should test negative (assuming that the test is beyond 6 days).

Do you take any prescription drugs?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

novalog, lantis

also the lab was asking if i take over the counter

Expert:  Family Physician replied 6 years ago.
That's fine, neither of these would cause a positive drug test.

As I mentioned, your test was conducted within the expected detection period, so a positive test is not unexpected or unusual.

does drinking water and exercise buy me an insurance policy

Expert:  Family Physician replied 6 years ago.
Being adequately hydrated would decrease the detection period slightly, but it would not give you "insurance" that you would always be negative. Essentially, if you were near the end of the detection period, you might be able to pass if you had consumed a bit more fluid that day.
