This dream reflects extreme sadness and depression on the part of your friend who may represent herself in the dream, or may represent others. Depression increases with the season (just the waning daylight is a trigger).
Unconsciously you recognize her distress, and you want to help, but she refuses help. Perhaps it came too late and now she has taken the only path she felt was open to her.
