First of all let me commend you for getting out of volatile relationship with your ex husband, sometimes it is very difficult for people to get out and to move on in their lives and they usually just keep repeating the same dysfunctional cycle over and over. Give yourself a big pat on the back as it takes strength to do this.

Dreams reoccur to get your attention, as you know with yours, you are left questioning your feelings due to these dreams of being back with your ex.

Please remember that emotions in dreams are usually exaggerated, so for an example if you had someone steal your parking place that morning, and you had a dream that night that someone robbed your entire household and trashed your house and you very upset and wanted to kill them, this in turn could be your emotions of frustration from the stolen parking place being played out in this over enhanced way.

The first thing you may want to ask yourself to try and understand why your dream content involves being with your ex is, is there any unresolved feelings, issues, problems? Is there something going on that could trigger them, like disputed custody of children? Shared pets? Old bills you have to pay even though he should be?
Thoughts like, "if he wouldn't have done this to me things would be so much different", can be emotions shown in the dream being back with him.

Things like that can easily trigger these kind of dreams. Feelings that were left unsaid, emotional scars from the past abuse that have not fully healed.
How long has it been since you have been away from this marriage? Maybe you haven't fully healed as of yet?
