This type of nightmare is very common in children -having something chasing them. PG13 commercials can have some scary images for this age. I think it is valuable to teach children to interpret their own dreams. That dreams are messages from our mind that are trying to help us figure out solutions to our problems. It takes he mystery out of it, it is something they can't control, this way it isn;t so scary to go back to sleep
Try this, during the day (before the nightmare), is she struggling with good choices vs. bad choices. If you can remember what her issues were during the day, then when the nightmare come and she wakes up look at how the ball was like her "bad choices "behavior or her anger. How her anger, for example became like the ball, threatening others. Feel free to ask me any questions
