Customer Question

Hi, Its a long story so I will try to keep it short. I have two Parsons Russell terriers. My husband passed 1-15-16. They have gotten very aggressive and are hurting each other now. I try to break them up but have pulled muscles and gashes. I love them. Help. Carol

I am very sorry for your loss. let's keep this very simple and not complicated. 1. We don't know if his passing is necessary the factor that is inducing this aggressive behavior between them. 2. The behavior could be due to a change in their routine, or that one of them may have changed in some way. An example wold be one pet is ill but is not readily showing symptoms. What to do Carol?1. Get them both in to a vet sooner than later. 2. Keep them seperated in the meantime. You don't want a huge vet bill for a dog attack. 3. There are behavioral modifying medications that can help. We literally prescribe Prozac sometimes to aggressive pets. But!The vet should do some basic testing on them both first, and then ascertain who needs to be medicated...or both.Very tough situation and very sorry you are going through all of this Carol. Good Luck!Dr. Andy

Thankyou Dr. Andy. These dogs have everything. They are neutered, spayed, all vaccines, de-flea and tick, hw, just everything they have the best dogs life any of them could ever live so this does not make sense. I will tell their vet but I am still just clueless cause I know they are not sick. Jealously perhaps. I am an old RVT. Still with a license and thid has got me stumped. Well, thankyou so much. I did need that. God bless, Carol

Well, we can't make any assumptions. I have seen aggression issues arise because one of the pets is painful for one reason or another. Either way, any further attacks is going to result in a very serious complication, so if necessary, behavioral modifying drugs may be necessary. Good Luck Carol.Dr. Andy
