Thank you for using this site to help you with your problem. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I have been in the dog field for 25 years. It will be my pleasure to help you today.

Since the puppy has come into the pack the pack is disrupted because they test boundaries of the other dogs. When this happens it starts a mistrust among the pack and the one who considers itself the leader suddenly feels the need to protect everything.

When this happens the human has to step in and take control as a leader and not allow any of the dogs to take that role.

As well when it comes to bringing in a put to stay with older dogs it is imperative that the owner limit the time the pups spends with the older dogs because they generally are not well socialized themselves which can cause more of an uproar in the dynamic pack patterns.

It is important to be not only limiting time but teaching the puppy manners because only when the older dogs see you have control over the pup is when they may be able to feel more relaxed. What may start happening if it continues this way is you may soon see the elders frighting it out as well.

When it comes to feeding, now that you know it is a cause fro trouble I would put each dog in a separate room with the door closed or the room gated off and feed them that way until you can regain control. Have several water bowls strategically placed around the home so that the dogs are never deprived of water out of fear that another dog will come after them should they try to get a drink.

I would with the older dogs start the nothing in life is free (NILIF) training which is going to take up some of the family's time but will work in getting you a more stable pack. In addition all dogs should continue to be trained in obedience and while I understand that your older dogs know what sit and down mean it is more to show them that you are a leader and consistent in what you expect of them. This training will work in conjunction with the NILIF training diet.


I will direct you to a a site that goes over the NILIF training and the training commands using a positive food based method. WE find that the more we can reward eh good behavior the bad behavior begins to fade. As well you will want to teach the puppy some basic manners.

One command to get down 100% for all dogs is the Leave it command. This commands when taught correctly should mean to the dog "take your mind off of everything you are looking at or wanting and put your focus back on me" You can then use this command if you see one dog going for another dog.

The clicker costs about 3 dollars in a pet store. Use human food such as hot dog slivers or chicken slivers,as a reward or at least a special dog treat that they will only get at the time of training. All dogs should be trained for 10 to 15 minutes each but trained throughout the day as time allows.When you train throughout the day it shows the dogs you are a consistent leader which is very very important. You also have to sit down with the family and discuss all of what I have outlined because one person deviates from the program and you can undo everything you have worked for.

Also in training get a very good recall on them so when you call their name they come back to you immediately which can also avert any trouble.
