Welcome to Just Answer. My name is***** have over thirty years of experience in the veterinary field. I’m happy to help with your question today. But please bear with me if I need to ask you some clarifying questions first. Thank you!

Before I can start, I need a little more information, so could you please confirm the following :

1. I wonder how much onion would be in the taco, a tablespoon or less?

Customer
Probably less than 2 tablespoons. I found a good amount on the couch, but there was also cilantro on it. I don't know if cilantro is bad for dogs too.

Got it, thanks; please stand by, I am typing up your answer right now.

I aim to get an initial answer back to you within the next ten minutes.

{ Cilantro is non-toxic to dogs }

Customer
That makes me feel a little better. Thank you.
Customer
I found more onion on the floor. So maybe a tablespoon or less.

I am sorry to hear about Chloe's problem, I know you must be very concerned. Hopefully, we can get this resolved quickly.

1. I would not normally worry about the amount of onion that you described; in my experience, this will be very unlikely to have affected your dog in any adverse way. Chloe should be just fine.

2. You see, the situation is that while it is true that onions can be toxic to dogs due to sulfate poisoning, I am glad to say that it takes quite a lot of onions to be toxic to dogs.

3. But here are the numbers: If a dog eats 100 grams of onion ( Which is about the size of a medium onion ) per 20 kilograms of a dog's weight, this can cause toxic effects. This means that a 45-pound dog would have to eat one medium-to-large-size onion to experience dangerous toxicity levels. So Chloe should not be in any danger from the taco incident today.

4. But in any case, I should be available online for you for the next four or five hours today, so please do not hesitate to get straight back to me if Chloe's condition changes in any way or indeed if you would like to talk things over with me further.

Regards,

Dr. Scott

Customer
Dr. Scott, thank you for easing my mind tonight. I feel absolutely horrible. I cannot believe I did that. She's such a picky eater that I'm surprised she ate it. She's acting completely normal. I took her outside and now she's laying on the couch. Thank you so very much! I'm sorry.

No problem, I am very glad to be advising you.

But please let me know how Chloe gets on.

Kindest regards,

Dr. Scott

Customer

Good morning, Dr. Scott - Chloe is acting completely normal. When vacuuming the floor last night, I found more onion pieces. I appreciate your time and guidance. Thank you for helping me.
Have a nice day!
