Customer: My 7 month old English springer spaniel has had diarrhea for more than 24 hours. He goes 4 hours in between. Just last night around 1am vomited. I ck his temp with my thermometer and it read 96.7f.
JA: I'll do all I can to help. Does the vomit look liquidy or foamy? Is there food in it?
Customer: Foamy
JA: Could he have eaten anything unusual?
Customer: I think maybe.
JA: And what's the English Springer Spaniel's name and age?
Customer: He has all vaccinations
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: He is still playing . Refuses to eat. We needed to force feed him yesterday...and he ate it all

Hi there! This is Dr. Montgomery. I’m here to help you today.
Hello! I'm Marcella
My 7 month old English Springer Spaniel has had diareha for the past two days, and just this morning threw up twice.
When taking his temperature yesterday he was 93.3° F
Any new food or treats recently?
He was fed yesterday rice with his kibble but he refused to eat it, he was hand fed his regular food instead.
He is going to be fed rice, chicken, and pumpkin later.
Is it likely for him to be in the beginning stages of Parvo? Or does he have a type of stomache virus?

Is he otherwise acting normally? Can you tell me the color of his gums?

It absolutely could be either of those. Is he vaccinated for parvovirus?

He has been acting normal, he was given all his shots already including for Parvo
His gums are pink with no discoloration
His current temperature is at 97.5° F, is that normal for a dog?

That is a little low for a dog. Normal should be above 98 degrees.

It’s good that the gums are pink though.

Is there any medication he can take to help him? He has been given Pepto and probiotics, but they haven't helped him much.

I think I would continue to try to feed him the bland diet with boiled chicken/hamburger and rice.

How much does he weigh?

He is 42 lbs

So I would try giving 20 mg of pepcid every 12 hours. This can help settle the stomach too. It’s better than Pepto.

Pepto has low doses of aspirin in it.

Should it be given before, during, or after eating

Before would likely be best. If that doesn’t help then you will likely need to see your vet to be sure it is not parvovirus or anything else more serious.

I like Fortiflora as probiotics. I think they work a little better.

How long should I give before scheduling a vet visit?

I would give it another 24 hours or so. If you aren’t seeing improvement then I would schedule an appointment,

Ok, thank you!

No problem! Good luck! I hope that helps! Please remember to leave me a review!

I will, and again thank you!
