Customer: Is 25mg ok for a puppy 3 lbs and 9 weeks old for fever
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long has the puppy had this fever? Any changes in eating/drinking?
Customer: May not have a temp over 100 degrees and for about 5 hrs. He eats just fine and drank 4 oz over last 10 hrs. Has a little stuffy nose. We just got him at 3 pm today
JA: What's the puppy's name?
Customer: Hugo-he has ate about 1/2 cup of soft dog food w/chicken/carrots & apples w/rice as main ingredients. Has weed and had 2 soft formed stools
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: he’s slept about 8 hrs w/intermittent potty breaks outside. Not real playful but has played w/a sock doing a little tug of war.

Hi this is Dr. Jen. I am a small animal veterinarian with 16 years of experience and would be happy to advise you today!
Customer
Did you get the information I sent on the website or do I need to repeat it?
I did but I need some clarification.

You are concerned about Hugo having a fever?

Customer
That & a stuffy nose. No stidor or plemgb and I'd say just low temp maybe 100*.

Normal temperature for a puppy is 100-102 F.

Typically a puppy is also going to be lethargic and not have an appetite with a fever.

Customer
He's eaten about about 1/3 to 1/2 c soft puppy canned food w/main ingredients rice/chicken/apple/carrots and drank about 4 oz of cream/water mix. Pooped 2x soft formed stool and peed 4 or 5x

Is there any sort of nasal discharge?

Customer
Slight watery dish charge
Customer
I gave him a mist of Saint/water mix

Any sneezing or coughing?

Customer
Not sneezing but sort of snort followed by retch but no vomit
Customer
I gave him about 25 mg of ibuprofen
Customer
Is that ok?
Customer
He's about 2,5-3 lbs

It sounds like he may have a bit of a mild upper respiratory tract infection starting.

We typically do not recommend giving ibuprofen. Please give me a minute to calculate that dose given to make sure that this is OK.

Customer
I hope I didn't hurt him-that was info I found on internet

In the future please use this site so that you can actually chat with a professional. We would never recommend giving any dog ibuprofen much less a puppy.

It appears the dose given is slightly below (over 28mg if he is 2.5#) the dose that can cause gi issues and definitely not high enough to cause kidney issues.

if he were to start having any vomiting over the next few days I would definitely recommend a vet visit.

It sounds as if at this point he is acting like a normal puppy that just had a big transition. It’s normal for them to be a bit quiet at first.

Customer
Breeder I got him from said he's had his worming at 2-4& 6 was and had a 5 way shot yesterday

Ahh that’s why he’s a bit down. The vaccine will do that for sure.

Customer
Oh good-I was worried. Thank you so much-I really appreciate this

Of course! Happy to help!

Feel free to message back here is anything changes over the next day or so.

And congrats again on your new pup!

Customer
Thanks again

You’re welcome!
