Hello, my name is***** and I'd be happy to help you! My job here is to determine whether or not diagnostic tests need to be run or if we can manage things at home.

JustAnswer always offers a premium phone call for an additional charge; I am currently not available to talk via phone, but am happy to communicate via text!

Give me a couple of minutes to calculate the dose the Jaxon got!

Was this just plain Benedryl (Diphenhydramine) or was there any other compound in it (such as pseudoephedrine or acetaminophen)?

Just Benedryl

Great!

This dose is approximately 11 mg/kg. Typically, serious side effects occur at higher doses, such as 30-45 mg/kg. You may still see drowsiness, lethargy, or sedation. Sometimes in younger dogs, you may also see paradoxical excitement.

You may try to induce vomiting at home with hydrogen peroxide, but this is not something that I routinely advise without direction from your family vet as it may lead to other serious problems such as aspiration pneumonia and continuous vomiting. However, as mentioned, I don't expect any serious effects at this dose - potentially just transient side effects. However if he begins to show symptoms of muscle tremors, disorientation, problems breathing, etc, then I would bring him to the emergency clinic.

I hope this is helpful!
