K, My 13 y/o chacahua had three of his teeth extracted last
My 13 y/o chacahua had three of his teeth extracted last Sat. According to the vet, he tolerated the procedure well and had a min blood loss. His vitals were stable. However, once I took him home I noticed that his urination stream had changed. It was a very light stream followed by dripping. I thought that it was normal post anesthesia and morphine effects and did not worry. He was on morphine for the next 24 hrs and then I discontinued. On the third day post-op, his symptoms of dripping and thin stream did not improve. On day 4, he started licking his penis (which is very atypical for him) and upon examination, I noticed a laceration. We live in Arizona and I thought that he might be bitten by a scorpion or a black widow, even though, he only walks outside with me on a leash. I took him back to the vet who said that it was probably an ischemic attack that he sustained during the operating procedure. I was shocked. The vet suggested clindomyocin for 7 days and topical dermalone ointment. However, the stream is not better and now, one side of my dog's penis looks like one big scab, from the top to bottom of the gland. I am questing the fact that I shut due using that cream and wondering if I should use coconut oil to soften the scab instead. I am afraid when the scab falls off there might be a large wound underneath that can bleed. … read more
