Hello,

I am Dr. Snow, and I can try and help you with Zeus. What kind of dog is he? Was it just one piece?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
He is a Manchester terrier chihuahua mix. I believe it was just one.

Ok, do you have the bag or box they came in? How long ago did he eat it?

It was from a candy store in bodega bay ca. It was from a bin with no listed ingredients. I’d say about 2 hours ago. He ate all of his dinner but has intermittently been licking his lips.

Was it salt water taffy?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Ok, it doesn't look like taffy is usually made with anything toxic (like xylitol). The ingredients seem pretty benign for dogs.

The only concern should be the possibility of an obstruction since he is a small breed and the taffy may not break down enough.

You have 2 options:

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

1. You can give half a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to try and get him to vomit it up. This works best within the first 2 hours so its been a little bit longer than that, but it could be worth a try. You can repeat it one time if it doesn't work the first time.

or

2. You can just monitor for any GI symptoms such as vomiting or decreased appetite. That would mean he would need to see his vet for an x ray!

Please let me know how I can help further!

Ok thank you. I will just monitor. I know about hydrogen peroxide however I would practically have to sedate him to get it down him without biting me. Thank you.

I totally understand! I suspect he will be just fine! Please keep me updated, and please kindly rate me using the stars at the top. :)
