My dog managed to get a hold of two chocolate chip cookies. He weighs about 11 lbs, and we estimate about 1.5 ounces of chocolate was consumed. We don't know what kind of chocolate it was, but we don't think it was dark or milk chocolate

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What is wrong with your dog?

He has no symptoms yet. We think he ate it about 4 hours ago and are just wondering if we should take him into the vet or if we should just keep an eye on him

Veterinarian's Assistant: The Expert will know if your dog will be able to digest that. What is your dog's name and age?

Chester. He is about 1

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Chester?

No, he's a pretty healthy dog

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Don't give it a second thought. With the more dangerous dark chocolate, 1/3 ounce per pound of body weight (~3.7 ounces for Chester) would be needed for theobromine toxicity (vomiting, agitation, tremors, soon after ingestion) to be a worry. As with ingesting anything unusual transient gastrointestinal distress in the form of inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea can arise but Chester wasn't intoxicatedand will remain safe. There's no need to induce emesis or treat in any manner. Please respond with further questions or concerns.
