Customer Question
Her right side of...

Her right side of her lower jaw and underneath her jaw is swollen and feels hard. She is chewing and eating and licking still, that doesn't seem to hurt her. She hasn't vomited and she seems to be breathing fine, but I don't think she's been around any unusual plants or bugs

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the dog eat anything unusual?

No, but my roommate said she got a hard toy lodged briefly in her mouth. I was worried about her jaw but it doesn't seem to be causing her any pain

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. The Expert will know what to do. Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about the dog?

She is 5 months old German Shepherd

Are you able to send a picture of the swelling?

Is her breathing ok? Any sign of a cough?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 19 days ago
Her breathing is fine, and no coughing. I'm having trouble getting her to stay still long enough to send a clear photo
Customer reply replied 19 days ago
Every now and then she kinda smacks her mouth open and closed and it sounds a little wet which I haven't seen her do before, but besides that she is acting normal.
Customer reply replied 19 days ago
the swelling changed, its mainly under her jaw and towards her neck area. instead of looking solid it is kinda swinging around a little, like its liquid
Dog Veterinarian: Richard Rawling,

It sounds like edema, a fluidy swelling, Is it just affecting one side of her face?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 19 days ago
its not up around her face at all, she looks normal until you look under her mouth. instead of a smooth line from her jaw to her neck there is a swelling
Customer reply replied 19 days ago
Actually I went back and was feeling it again, and there is a hard swollen part on the right side of her lower jaw in addition to the looser hanging swollen part under her jaw
Customer reply replied 19 days ago
the looser hanging part doesn't seem to hurt her but when I touched her mouth she jerked it away slightly

Apologies for the delay in replying, I have been offline for a few days. Is the swelling still present? Does she chew sticks?
