My dog just ate 2 Nellie Stevens holly berries. She’s an 8 lb papillon puppy. What can I do?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your puppy will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Maxine Rose

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Maxine?

No she’s healthy. No issues other than the berries

Silly Maxine Rose!

Holly contains saponins which may result in (depending on the quantity eaten of course) vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. Two berries might not be enough to cause a problem. No major toxic effects though!

If she gets upset belly give 5mg of pepcid AC (famotidine) twice daily and feed bland food like boiled chicken and rice for a few days.
