Customer Question
Hi. My dog has...

Hi. My dog has diarrhea and we think it could either be she ate grass with round up sprayed on it (my dad sprayed some on weeds this morning before we woke up) or she's reacting to eating rib bones my neighbor left out on his doorstep a couple days ago.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Addie

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Addie?

We just watched her go to the bathroom in the front yard. definitely diarrhea but she was drooling a little as well as shaking too. She's a german shorthair pointer so she often shakes due to anxiety.

the dog is an 11 year old german shorthair pointer in good health and she was just drooling a bit while trying to go to the bathroom which came out very wet.

Hello,

I am Dr.Snow, and I can try and help you with Addie. How long has she had the diarrhea? How old is she?

Hi. She's 11 years old and has had diarrhea for the past three hours maybe. I saw a couple instances where she went. It's probably 11 hours after she would have ingested the weed killer and the first bout of diarrhea was about 7 or 8 hours after she might have ingested it. Like I said, our neighbor leaves out rib bones for her and we know she ate several of them throughout the day yesterday. She didn't eat all of her food this morning nor did she eat when we tried to feed her a half hour ago either.

I think it is more likely to be the rib bones causing her diarrhea. Has she had any vomiting?

She has not vomited at all. would it be helpful to give her chicken broth? maybe help loosen and clear her out?
Dog Veterinarian: Sarah Snow,

Chicken broth would not be a bad idea. I would suggest boiled chicken and rice. The rice especially will help with the diarrhea. We want to do a bland diet to let her GI tract rest.

Pork is notorious for causing Gi issues in dogs. If she starts vomiting, she may have to see her vet to rule out pancreatitis.

You can also try a dose of Pepcid to calm her stomach. How much does she weigh?

50 lbs

Ok, you can give her a 10mg tablet by mouth. Try that and a bland diet and see how she does over the night.

Please let me know if I can help further, and please kindly rate me using the stars at the top. :)
