Sometimes my dog throws...

Sometimes my dog throws up a kind of yellow discharge and then proceeds on as if nothing happened. Should we be worried?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did your dog eat anything unusual?

Not that I know of.

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. The Expert will know what to do. Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about your dog?

She’s a Pomeranian chihuahua mix and otherwise in good health.

I'm sorry she's having this issue.

There's something called bilious syndrome, which just means nausea on an empty stomach. They usually vomit bile in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning, then seem better later in the day. The vomiting may occur at other times of the day as well depending on feeding schedule.

Does this sound like what's happening?

If so, I'd recommend 10mg of pepcid AC (famotidine) and a snack before bed. Dividing dinner into two portions (1/2 at dinner, 1/2 before bed) works well. If it happens mid day feeding a midday meal may help.

Pepcid can be given twice daily is needed.

Please let me know if this sounds like what's going on!
