I am sorry to hear you are worried about Lightening being in pain.

How much does she weigh, and how much aspirin did she get?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

Joint supplements need to be give for about a month before you see the benefits. Aspirin works more quickly, but there are safer and more effective pain medications for dogs. They are by prescription, so you have to get them from your veterinarian.

If you tell me her weight, and how much aspirin she got, I can tell you if that was the right dose.

It was 120 mg. It seem to not help much just a little.
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
I hope you can help. I was going to take her to emergency in my area but one visit is $94 and I'm trying to save cost but get her the help she needs. She has had this before.
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

If she is 21 pounds, I would not give her more than 100 mg, twice daily, with food. If 120 mg did not help, she might need a different anti inflammatory, and/or a pain medication such as tramadol or gabapentin.

It might be best for her to be examined, to determine where the pain is coming from.

The only way to get prescription pain medication is by seeing a veterinarian. Aspirin is the only safe over the counter medication you can try. You could try cool compresses or icing the sore area.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Can you do that online and send prescription to local area for me to pick up
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
I've seen walmart sell dog prescriptions so I did not know if they had that too.
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

You can only get a prescription from a veterinarian you have seen, who has examined Lightening and has a "client patient relationship" with you. As on online vet, I can only offer advice and answer questions; I can't write a prescription.

Ok well I'm thinking of trying to hold out till Monday go local vet. I just hate seeing her like that. Thank you.
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

You are welcome. Try the ice and if she is eating and not vomiting, the aspirin twice daily. Please let me know how she is doing and if you have other questions.
