I am sorry to hear you are worried about your puppy. How long since Rosie stopped eating?

A little over a day

If you lift her lip to check her gums, do they look pink or are they pale?

Can you take her temperature? Normal rectal temp is 101.5.

Drinking and peeing

Not eating for a whole day in a puppy this small is concerning. Any vomiting?

An acetone smell to the breath can indicate kidney disease, but that would be very unusual in a puppy this young. Good her gums are pink.

Will she take water, or liquids? I am worried about her becoming dehydrated.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
she is drinking
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
She wouldn’t let me open her mouth much

If she is drinking, offer her Pedialyte, broth, ice chips, anything to stay hydrated.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Honestly, the best thing to do with a puppy this young that has not eaten in a day is to have her checked out by a veterinarian to find out if she has a fever, if she needs medication, and to check if the smell on her breath is normal "puppy breath" or truly acetone.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
What could be wrong?

If you decide to wait to see your regular veterinarian tomorrow rather than go to an emergency hospital, try to keep her drinking any liquids you can.

I would need to examine her to tell you what is wrong. She may have a virus, parasites, fever, infection. Has she been vaccinated?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Thanks yes vaccinated to 8 weeks
Could she have diabetes? Im worried its ketosis!

Diabetes would be highly unlikely in a puppy; I have never heard of it happening.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Just did some research, and diabetes can occur in puppies. I have never seen it, in my 33 years, so it is rare. Has she been drinking excessively recently? Most diabetics are drinking much more than normal.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
She sometimes looks like she has weak back legs too
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I cant really tell but she is drinking and weeing normal... is acetone breath caused by anything else?
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Should l give ber some water sugar in case?
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Her oops sorry

There isa normal odd smell to the breath of puppies this age; we call it "puppy breath"; it may be that is what you smell.

Diabetes means a dog has high blood sugar. If she has low blood sugar, she could be lethargic and sugar water would help but she would not be diabetic if she has low blood sugar.

The weak back legs should be checked out; that is worrying.

Acetone breath can be caused by kidney disease, but that too would be very unusual in a puppy this young.
