Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What sort of animal are we talking about?

great dane

Veterinarian's Assistant: There are all sorts of infections the Great Dane can pick up. I'll have you talk to the Veterinarian who'll sort out what is wrong and help you decide what to do about it. What is the Great Dane's name and age?

His name is Larry :) he turned 2 in January

Veterinarian's Assistant: How old is Larry?

2

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Larry?

He is a healthy boy. has a sensitive stomach so eats grain free. i added omega to his food recently. He was licking his anus like crazy for a few days so had his anal glands expressed for the first time 2 days ago. He is back to licking his but non stop when they were expressed the vet tech said they were 3/4 full and no sign or symptoms of infection noted.

ok he was prescribed it for some skin irritation last month but we didn't use it. I don't know if it is infected or now but he keeps licking his but like crazy so do you think its a good idea?

Dogs that have anal gland problems-> licking bum a lot, scooting bum etc etc invariably have allergies

Surprised your vet did not discuss this with you

I would recommend a prescription hypoallergenic diet asap

Your vet will have it

He eats grain free Fromm and is very picky. Are there other things to do first before switching his food?

That diet is not a hypoallergenic diet

He likely has food or inhalant allergies

He is exactly the age when we start to see these things

Diet change is top of list
