Our male Chihuahua mix, age 10, has a red spot on his nose.

Customer Question
Our male Chihuahua mix...

Our male Chihuahua mix, age 10, has a red spot on his nose. Not crusty, not infected. It just showed up. At the same time, last 24 hours, he's had diarrhea and has thrown up 3 times. Our regular vet is closed on weekends. Any ideas or suggestions? TY.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the dog eat anything unusual?

We thought he might have snuck a bit of something while we were out on a walk. We watch the little scavenger very closely, but he's fast.

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the dog's name and age?

Lennon, and as mentioned, 10. He's otherwise been in excellent health.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Lennon?

No, that's it, really, TY.

Welcome to JustAnswer.com! My name is***** and I have been a licensed veterinarian for 10 years. I would be happy to answer your question. I'm sorry to hear that Lennon isn't feeling well. I don't know whether the spot on the nose is related to the vomiting and diarrhea. Would you be able to send a picture of it? Also, he Lennon eating?

He has not been eating since yesterday. Not even his favorite all-natural treat. I will send you a pic in a minute. He threw up stomach contents in two loads overnight and this morning early, then a few dry heaves of white liquid, about an hour apart.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
No call, sorry. His regular food is Earthborne small breed.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Dog Veterinarian replied 3 months ago

My worry is that this growth is a mast cell tumor, which releases excess antihistamines and can cause vomiting and diarrhea as a result. I would give him some Pepcid to help settle his stomach. You can give one 5 mg tablet every 12 hours. If he keeps vomiting the rest of the evening, I would take him to the ER for anti-nausea medication, instead of waiting until Monday to get him to your vet, because I don't want him to get dehydrated. Your vet will want to get some cell samples from the growth to figure out what kind of growth it is.
