My golden retriever has his testicles the size of an orange or a small grapefruit. He is not walking much. I just noticed this last night. I went to see my vet but it’s a holiday weekend and she is close till Monday. What can i do until then?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Have you looked to see if there is a wound on their foot?

I did not see any cuts or scraps just an area on his testicles that looked like he had licked them

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is your dog's name and age?

He’s name is ***** ***** he is approximately 3 years old

Veterinarian's Assistant: How old is Churro?

3 years old

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Churro?

Hi, I'm Dr. Rachel. Are both testicles about the same size? Is he neutered?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 20 days ago
They look like one grapefruit and not two normal testicals. No he is not neutered. He rather just sit, i guess its painful for him to walk
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Dog Veterinarian replied 20 days ago

I think that your dog has a prostate infection and needs antibiotics, pain meds, and to be neutered. I don't know if anyone would do the surgery on the weekend, but he needs to be taken in to get antibiotics and pain meds. Depending on whether the clinics in your area are still open, this may mean taking him to the ER.

Can I give him an antibiotic like amoxicillin and then I can get my
Vet to see him on Monday? How much med should I give him he weighs around 65 lbs and does he need to be neutered?
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Dog Veterinarian replied 20 days ago

You could start the antibiotic but he's still going to be painful.

Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Dog Veterinarian replied 20 days ago

If he's got a prostate infection, antibiotics might clear it, but he is at risk for getting the same problem down the road.

You could give 1 tablet every 12 hours until you get him to the vet Monday morning.

Could this be cause by a tick or flea bite? This will be my last ? . thanks
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Dog Veterinarian replied 19 days ago

Good question. I don't think it's caused be a flea or tick bite, but it might be caused by a spider bite. You can give him some Benadryl in case any of this is an allergic reaction to a bite. About how much does he weigh?
