My dog had an infection pyoderma and dermatitis. She got put on cephalexin 500mg and prednisone. I noticed she started licking herself alot where she pees and shes super swollen and there's like a flappy lump also. Sges dragging herself now when she comes in from outside. It's been just over a month since shes been on the meds. I wish i would've checked her sooner. What could this b? A yeast infection? I was late for vet appt and they won't even look at her quick. Im so upset!

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. There are all sorts of infections your dog can pick up. I'll have you talk to the Veterinarian who'll sort out what is wrong and help you decide what to do about it. What is your dog's name and age?

Harley she is 10

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Harley?

We had a flea infestation I have never before in my life had that happen or lice even it as expensive and just horrible

I can't get her to let me

Okay, no worries. Her behavior could indicate a urinary tract infection. A more serious problem would be an infected uterus. If there is discharge coming out of her vulva, that's what she might be licking. I would get her in for an exam. They may recommend doing some lab work including a urinalysis, as well.

I'm sorry but without lab tests I cannot figure out whether you dog has a urinary tract infection or something else going on.

Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Dog Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

I'm sorry you had a bad day. How long has she been on antibiotics?

Also, cephalexin is used to treat skin infections. It may not work against any bacteria that is causing her to have a urinary tract infection.
