Customer Question
Hi my Westie Titus...

Hi my Westie Titus 13 years has had loose stool little watery a few days. I stopped giving him his Temeril P a week ago cause I was all out. Could stopping cause this? He’s eating and drinking and otherwise fine. Only diarrhea when he’s walked. I also give him probiotic with enzymes. Thanks.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Have you looked to see if there is a wound on their foot?

That question has nothing to do with my question

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the Westie's name?

Titus

1- Why was he on Temaril-P?

2- Did he get into anything or eat something out of the ordinary?

He has bad skin allergies. It’s helped him a lot. Didn’t eat anything out of normal diet

Is he on a special diet?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
No I give him wellness air dried kibble in morning. Then he gets a few natural treats. Dinner is fresh mackerel with vegetables. I also use Alaskan fish oil on his food.

Could it be stopping the Temeril P??
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Peter, Veterinarian replied 3 months ago

Friend, diarrhea can be caused by many different medical conditions. I will not be able to pinpoint the exact underlying cause without a hands-on examination and some testing, I am sorry. But, common causes are dietary indiscretion, ingestion of a foreign body, infections, or even part of a systemic disease to name a few causes. This is not related to stopping the Temaril-P. This is what you can do:

1- Pepto Bismol 1/2 teaspoon every 8 hours for 1-2 days.

2- Change his diet to rice (75%) and boiled boneless chicken or ground beef (25%) until the stool is back to normal then wean him back into his regular diet.

3- Continue on the Probiotic.

4- If after doing the above you do not see improvement within 24 hours I would have him checked by your family veterinarian for a hands on examination.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service - I hope I've provided the information you were seeking, if you feel you have received anything less, please reply back as I am happy to address follow-up questions. Kindly rate me when you are done.
