apart from that he is acting totally normal does not appear to be in any pain, eating and drinking and playing!
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
trying to keep him quiet

What breed is Alfie?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
a MORKIE , yorkie maltese mix

Is he licking any area of the affected leg? Which leg is bothering him?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
has been licking he has allergies!!! we have a lot of pollen here its his front left leg
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
no sores or open wounds
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
everything looks good

Ok, that helps narrow things down a little. Are you able to check all his nails? Dogs can often pull a nail and this can be very painful. Be sure to check his dew claw on the affected foot if he has them.

no problems there

Any redness between his toes or a yeasty/fruity smell?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
nope smells normal

Ok. We have hopefully ruled out a yeast infection associated with his allergies, and no signs of trauma to his nails so this is all good. If he had a problem such as a broken toe, we would expect to see swelling to a particular toe and I would expect the lameness to be more persistent. Another possibility is an insect sting. Dogs often stand on an insect and get a sting between their pads which should resolve quickly without treatment.

If there is no sign of any of this it is possible he has a muscular sprain leading to the intermittent lameness. A simple sprain should improve with a few days rest and reduced exercise, especially if the signs are mild such as this. However if he is not improving over the course of the week, or if his lameness worsens, I would recommend having your vet check him over as diagnosing a cause for lameness can be extremely difficult without a physical exam.

I would strongly advise against giving any human pain meds such as ibuprofen as these can have profound effects on a dogs gastro-intestinal system.
