Veterinarian's Assistant: What sort of animal are we talking about?

A 121/2 year old very healthy whippet

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. I'll do all I can to help. What seems to be the problem with the whippet?

The vet has diagnosed him with a totally torn ACL. I have to decide which surgery to use and I am trying to find out which one will give him the best result. He did this chasing a rabbit.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Strange behavior is often perplexing. I'm sure the Veterinarian can help you. What is the whippet's name?

Otto

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Otto?

It should have been Fabio because he is a magnificent handsome and as dumb as a rock

Okay great

You have three or four choices depending on the weight of your dog

How heavy is Otto?

Paul

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
He is 27 pounds

Okay:

TTA

TPLO

Lateral suture/imbrication technique

Cage rest and anti-inflammatories

I have had five TPLO's done on our three dogs (two labs and one english setter)

Work very very well but expensive

I have personally performed over a thousand lateral imbrications/suture technique and had only a handful of problems post-op. Way cheaper and will work very well

TTA not needed and too complicated

Cage rest is cheapest obviously and you have 50 to 80% chance of it working
