I think my puppy ate a desiccant package last night. He's a black lab, 12 weeks, 17 lbs.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your puppy will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Amos

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Amos?

The package would have been intact, about 1in square

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

I am sorry to hear this happened.

How is Amos doing?

Any vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, or anything else abnormal?
Was this a typical silica bead packet you find in most foods and packages?

He seems fine. Playing eating pooping peeing, etc. yes typical package

I see.

These packages are non toxic if eaten, so your dog should be just fine.

Sometimes the dust can irritate the GI tract a little or cause irritation in the respiratory tract, but that is not anything that needs to be addressed. The packages say do not eat because they are not for consumption, not because they are toxic.

This is all very good news! Your pup should be just fine!

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Amos may have an episode of loose stool as it moves through, but that should resolve on its own if it even happens at all.
