Customer Question
I just found out...

I just found out my son's gsd pup ate some sos pads a few days ago and he is acting very mopey and he's not feeling well at all. I don't have the money to take him to the vet. What can I do for him

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if the pup will be able to digest that. What is the pup's name and age?

Apollo. He's 7 1/2 months

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Apollo?

He needs wormed but I know that's not what's making him so sick. He's more of a service dog with the way he acts with my son (he is severely mentally challenged)

Obstruction is obviously a worry if we know he ate the pads. If this is occurring I'd expect all food and water to be coming up....he could dehydrate pretty quickly if that's the case.

He could just have an upset belly. If that's the case he may respond to some pepcid AC 10mg twice daily along with some bland diet (boiled chicken/hamburger and rice) for a few days. That usually works for mild upset stomach.

My big concern in an unvaccinated dog is parvovirus, though. That's a deadly disease that he could perish from without treatment. This causes vomiting and bloody diarrhea.

You can try the pepcid and bland diet, but if he is not improving please get to a vet ASAP.

I hope Apollo feels better soon...crossing my fingers that it's just an upset belly. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Kindly consider rating my answer; you can always get back to me with questions and updates after rating.

Would inducing vomiting be good or no?
Dog Veterinarian: DrSarah, Veterinarian replied 3 months ago

If he's already vomited I wouldn't.

Is Apollo having any diarrhea?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
No diarrhea
Dog Veterinarian: DrSarah, Veterinarian replied 3 months ago

That's good. Give 10mg of pepcid. No food or water until no vomit for 6 hours. Then offer small amounts of water. If he does ok with that then start the bland diet in small amounts. If he keeps that down keep him on it for 2 days, then wean back onto regular food.

If he's not improving he really needs a parvo test. Hoping for the best!
