Welcome to JustAnswer.com! My name is***** and I have been a licensed veterinarian for 10 years. I would be happy to answer your question. I'm sorry to hear about your dog's bump. It's possible that he has an infected anal gland, but this is not as likely if he's not in pain. He might have a full anal gland that needs to be expressed. Is he scooting at all? Would you be able to send a picture?

It is bothering him now as I am touching it more

Are you talking about the area on the bottom of his anus? Would you be able to draw an arrow on the picture to show which part you are concerned about?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Thank you. That does look like an anal gland abscess to me. I would get him to the vet for a rectal exam. If he does have an abscess, your vet will want to treat with antibiotics and pain medication.

What medication would you recommend

Clavamox is a broad-spectrum antibiotic often used to treat anal sac abscesses. Your vet may also recommend something specific to the skin, such as Cephelexin or Simplicef. Those would be good choices, too.
