My 90 lb doodle is taking 75mg of Benadryl and my 8lb

Customer Question
My 90 lb doodle...

My 90 lb doodle is taking 75mg of Benadryl and my 8lb terrier mix got it when he spit it out.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What is wrong with the terrier?

Nothing at this point, but isn't that ALOT of Benadryl for an 8lb dog?

Veterinarian's Assistant: Where does the terrier seem to hurt?

She does not hurt. She ingested 75mg of Benadryl!

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. No obvious pain. The Expert will know if the terrier will be able to digest that. What is the terrier's name?

It is and likely to cause profound sedation or paradoxical excitation. I would induce emesis with 10 mL (two measuring teaspoons) of 3% hydrogen peroxide given with a large eyedropper or small poultry baster placed between LittleBit's cheek teeth and cheek. She should vomit within 15 minutes. If not, please repeat the same dose. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish. Inducing emesis is predicated upon her ingesting the Benadryl within the hour.
