My 9 lb 13 year old dachund licked tomato soup splatter - soup was spiced but creamy with no visible onions or garlic. Dog has chronic pancreatitis. Will this small licked amount be harmful? Dog was fed regular small amount of low fat bland food 5 minutes after. Please advise.

Star, I expect Murphy to remain unaffected. There's not nearly the amount of onion or garlic needed to cause toxicity in that splatter and I would be surprised if the fat content in such a casual exposure would risk exacerbation of pancreatitis. I see no need to induce emesis or treat in any manner. Murphy had a safe snack. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

Thank you - Concern stems from a recent bout of acute pancreatitis following ingestion of a small morsel of a fatty food. He is on 1.75 ml of Metoclopramide 2#/day, which should be helpful when he ingests something of potential worry. I appreciate your prompt response - I can now relax!

You're quite welcome. I can't set a follow-up in this venue so please return to our conversation - even after rating - with an update at your convenience. You can bookmark this page for ease of return.
