Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

1- Does he have a head tilt?

2- Did he get into anything?

3- Any vomiting, diarrhea or coughing?

4- Any pre existing medical conditions?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
his head is tilted, hard to walk, I was at work don't know if he got in anything but there was vomit on my couch. I have 4 of them, hard to tell who did what. He is very shaky and really not himself.

1- Can you take a look inside his ears for evidence of an infection like redness, discharge, bad odor, etc.?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
He was just at groomer Wednesday, no odor or redness

1- To make sure I got this right he is off balance and walking with a head tilt, correct?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Can you get him to stand and when standing try to get his head in a normal position, then, look at his eyes and see if they are going side to side or up and down almost in an involuntary manner?

Friend, I believe what you are seeing is a condition called "Vestibular Disease." This is when the system that controls balance in the brain goes off. The dog is basically seeing the surrounding environment as if drunk. Possible causes could be an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), brain tumors, ear infections, idiopathic (unknown), etc. to name a few causes. The good news is that most dogs with idiopathic vestibular disease will get better within 1-2 weeks. Other possible causes could be thromboembolic episode (stroke like), infections of the central nervous system, tumors, liver disease, etc.
Unfortunately, we are very limited as to what you can do at home, I am sorry. I would strongly recommend having him checked by a veterinarian as soon as you can for a hands-on examination.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service - I hope I've provided the information you were seeking, if you feel you have received anything less, please reply back as I am happy to address follow-up questions. Kindly rate me when you are done.
