Customer Question
Kenzie is a golden...

Kenzie is a golden retriever. She has a multitude of problems, the most recent being a nonspecific diagnosis. First I was told she had a non treatable lung cancer. take her home and keep her comfortable. Then they said, maybe not, but while what we see is not a mass there is something going on with her lungs. And I can see some problem with her breathing. She is also being treated for the aftermath of surgery on her rear elbow. She is constantly nauseas (sp;) and is taking a boatload of meds.

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. I'll do all I can to help. This sounds like it might be serious. I'll let the Veterinarian know what's going on ASAP. Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the golden retriever?

She was overweight (97 lbs) she is down to 82 lbs now. Appetite is good, but won't eat any of the foods I used to camoflage her meds. I think they are the source of her nausea. I have spent over 5,000 dollars as she is greatly loved but I feel I haven't helped her

Welcome to JustAnswer.com! My name is***** and I have been a licensed veterinarian for 10 years. I would be happy to answer your question. I'm sorry to hear that Kenzie is going through all this. What made the vet suspect a lung problem? Did they do chest x-rays?

that's when they told me it was untreatable lung cancer.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Dog Veterinarian replied 4 months ago

Lung cancer can be cancer that starts in the lungs, or cancer that spreads from other parts of the body. You said there was no mass there. I would expect them to have seen a mass in the lungs if it were primary lung cancer. Travel of cancer from other places in the body appear as small circular areas that appear wispy/moth-eaten. There are other causes of respiratory problems than cancer. Has your vet talked to you about other things that it could be? Is Kenzie coughing?

once in a while. Bye the way, I have just been charged $20 through Paypal, I thought it would be $5.00 and then $15.00
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Dog Veterinarian replied 4 months ago

I think the way it works is that you put a $5 deposit and if you get advice from an expert, you are charged another $15. I don't handle that part of it though so you might want to check with customer service. As for Kenzie, I would ask your vet some questions to get more information:

1. If it's cancer in the lungs, did it develop from the lungs or is it spread from somewhere else?

2. Could this be asthma? pneumonia? fungal infection?

3. If they are suspecting cancer, what treatments are out there? Most lung cancers are carcinomas and some available treatments include surgery and radiation.
