Ok. There is a new development. 2 of the empty heartgards were on the kitchen where we keep the pomeranian. She's a year old. I have no idea what time this happened but they both are being their normal selves

I am sorry to hear your dog ate 6 Heartgard pills. He should be OK. The active ingredient, ivermectin, is at a dose of 6 micrograms per kg of a dog's weight so eating 6 takes you to 36 mcg per kg. Most dogs can take 300 to 400 mcg per kg, so even all 6 pills is a tiny dose.

The other ingredient, pyrantel, is also pretty safe. The diarrhea could be the pyrantel or could be the chewy treat.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

So now you think the Pomeranian got how much, and what strength of Heartgards?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Possibly 2 at 272 mcg ivermectin 227 pyrantel

Got it; give me a moment to do math

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

What does the Pomeranian weigh?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

If he is 15 - 17 pounds, he still only got around 35 mcg per kg of ivermectin, still a very low dose.

Ok. I don't have a weight but she send to be at an ideal weight for that kind of dog

I have seen Pomeranians that weigh 25 pounds, and some that weigh only 5, so I don't know what he weighs. Still, this should not be enough ivermectin to make him sick.

Ok! Thank you very much!

You are wlelcome!

The pyrantel might affect him, depending on his weight.

How long ago did he get it?
