I am sorry to hear that your pup Lanikai ingested some of your thyroid tablets. Please don't panic yet, pound for pound dogs take a much higher dose than we do, although obviously your pup didn't need it.

Synthroid 88mcg (micrograms) are used in dogs too, if he ate four tablets he could have eaten as much as 352mcg.

A usual dog dose for thyroid supplements is 0.022mg (22mcg) per kilogram (2.2 pounds per kilogram) of body weight twice daily. (There are 1,000 mcg per mg).

That means a 140 pound dog (62.62 kilogram dog) would normally take 1.38mgs or 1377mcgs.

Although he didn't need it he did not take an overdose for sure.

In dogs a one time dose, even two to three times higher than usual dose, won't cause any problems, especially in young healthy dogs. In this case he dose he ingested is lower than an accurate dose for his size. This drug is metabolized out fairly quickly and a one time dose will be pretty much out of his system in 24 hours or so.

You might see mildly increased levels of energy, or he may be completely normal. But there won't be any dangerous effects for him with the amount he may have eaten.

It has been my pleasure to help you today, and I hope that I have earned my 5 star rating. Please remember to rate my service by selecting the 5 stars at the top of the screen (rating me now does not close your question). You are welcome to ask follow up questions about my response here until you are satisfied, simply use the reply box and let me know. Thank you!
