Hello and thank you for using this site to help you.

Does he eat any human food and if so what?

Has there been any vomiting or diarrhea?

When did he last eat and drink?

Does he normally chew the rawhide into small pieces before swallowing?

It was early yesterday 5:30am the last time he ate or drank. He had a piece of American cheese with a fish oil capsule. He just chews on the raw hide and ate just a little of it.
Dog Veterinarian: Sally G., Dog Training Consultant replied 3 months ago

Thank you for that information. Sometimes a piece of rawhide can cause stomach upset and sometimes it can cause a blockage of the intestinal tract.

It is possible also that the dog has a virus that will resolve in 48 hours.

I would give some ice cubes and see if he will take a lick of a few of those for hydration. Check the vital signs, gum color, temperature, and capillary refill to make sure this is not an emergency.

If this does not show improvement in the next 24 hours I would have him seen.

For stomach upset you can try a bland diet of boiled chicken and cooked white rice.

Here are instructions on how to take the vital signs.
