Customer Question
My 7yr. old dog...

My 7yr. old dog has torn the ACL in both knees during normal exercise. She is not over weight but is losing weight due to not eating. I cannot afford the TPLO or TTA originally recommended ($10,000+). My vet has suggested that we remove the knee joint allowing the top and bottom to heal together which would leave her stiff legged. He says that she would get around fine and be out of pain. ($300/knee) He has said that he believes that if we do one knee, we would not need to do the other because she would rely on the one on which we do surgery. Is this a reasonable solution? Would it cause hip problems?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What is the dog's name?

Sandy

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Sandy?

No she is healthy in general. She is a terrier mix, light boned but stands about the height of a collie and only weighs 38 lbs.

Hi

Dr. Paul Brazzell here

All I can say is you need a new vet! That is the craziest thing I have ever heard

Now, did they not offer you a repair other then the TTA and TPLO because they should have

That would cost about 1000.00 per knee maximum

Paul
